A Travesty!

Changing school hours

The reason why I am not in favor of the changed times in schools is, it would be catastrophic and inconsiderate to people involved from kids to teachers, would teachers they get a pay “rise!”. Would the students gain anything from the extra time given to them or will it be tiresome to even write a single word from a hard days work.

Firstly, children could be too sleepy and lethargic in the morning. Teachers would have to be at school at 6:30 in the morning! just to get ready for us. “Poor teachers”. The day would be so long and tiresome which would impact on our learning each day of each four terms every year.

Secondly, kids already don’t go to bed earlier enough that’s when they finally get home and they will be too tired to do homework and household chores. Some teachers that wake up at 4am might have to get up at 3am so they can get to school on time which will make them grumpy. With such a long day of teaching and learning it would become detrimental to our grades and our parents wouldn’t like that at all.

After reading these reasons and facts you will undoubtedly come to the same conclusion. This travesty shall not happen, I vow to fight this all the way to the GOVERNMENT! if I have to.

Why kids should not bring their produced rubbish home

Children should not! bring their produced rubbish home because children may create a pigsty in their bedrooms or even the whole house and the their parents wouldn't be happy with that.

Firstly, pests and rodents could be a threat to a person's health and may cause serious illnesses if rubbish is lying around in houses or even on the streets because they spread lots and lots of germs every single day and we do not want that near our homes. Kids nowadays are too lazy to clean after themselves but they can learn from their mistakes.

Secondly, children could be taught how to dispose of their rubbish in a bin if not known the understanding of what rubbish could do to schools or outside of schools. If this would have happened parents would feel outrageous and might send their child to a new school and we students are pretty sure the principal wouldn't like that at all.

Thirdly, there could be school rubbish monitors to keep schools clean and spotless and want people to enroll their children to our school and the principal would be happy again to see more children come to our school. School rubbish monitors could make a big difference by bringing more rubbish bins to make children come to an understanding of where rubbish should go and help the teachers and the principal to change their their mind.

This is a brief explanation of how others feel of this major catastrophe to schools all around New Zealand.

The Funnel Web spider

The funnel-web spider belongs in the arachnid family, it is different to other spiders because they live in a hole.

Their habitat is mostly found in the bushes of Australia, they use holes because it easier to find their prey. They use their webs to feel vibrations that have been triggered by prey that are walking  around the predators territory.

The male funnel web spider is smaller than the female, they grow up to 25mm to 35mm male spiders are smaller but they have longer legs. Here is a picture explain how different in size between the both genders.

The Penny Farthing

WALHT: Find and use information to write a concise report that includes images to inform our readers.
The Penny Farthing was the first bicycle made by James Starley, it was instantly popular after the boneshaker. ( The boneshaker was a bicycle  in the 1880’s, the boneshaker was a nickname for the first true bicycle with pedals because it had a wrought iron frame and wooden wheels.) The Penny Farthing comes from the old british Penny and Farthing coins.

The Penny Farthing was brought up by the old British currency coins which was called a Penny and Farthing. The Penny ( the large wheel ) was where the rider  had to sit which was not comfortable for him because they did not yet know of creating a comfortable seat, but it still traveled like the ordinary bicycle today. The pedals is located at the centre of the front wheel on this diagram over here. The Farthing ( the small wheel ) is attached to the top of the bicycle and connected to the handle bars also shown this picture below.

The Penny Farthing was originally made in Britain in the early 1880’s just like Karl Drais and his invention called the Velocipede ( It also had a nickname which was the ‘Boneshaker’ ). They were the first machines to ever be called the bicycles, the Pennyfarthing became the symbol of the Victorian era. The Victorian era was Queen Victoria’s period of her reign from the twentieth of  june 1837 until her death on the twenty second January 1901.

The Easter Bunny

He woke up with a big smile happy to see the Easter bunny knocking on his window. His father dressed up into a Easter bunny suit every year trying to make his children surprised to see a real bunny knocking on James and Lisa’s window and this time he’d done it.

James opened the window and asked his father where he got his suit from but he didn't answer and he wouldn’t come inside. Instead he started  hopping around and making big giant rabbit holes everywhere! He had a weird feeling about his father as he finished his breakfast.  His mother stood eyes wide open and she looked at her garden, she  couldn’t believe what she was looking at.  The garden was a mess and a  giant bunny busily made holes in her garden, James little sister Lisa was a little frightened and cried out “There’s a giant white thing in our backyard”.

James felt very curious when he saw  his own father stealing his wife’s carrot’s from the vege garden and stood mesmerized as he munched them up like an out of control  carrot eating machine. That’s when things got really weird  because his father came around the corner and the bunny went away.  The holes were gone and the garden was spotless. As soon as James heard the noise of a rabbit,  he ran upstairs and hid, crouched tightly in a corner of his wardrobe and waited. Then his father yelled out for Mum, Lisa and James to come down and look at something.

Once they got down they all told him everything about the Easter bunny ruining mum’s garden and making holes in the ground.  When they looked outside, right before their eyes there were hundred’s of easter eggs in the backyard.  At that moment  Lisa and James said simultaneously  “This is the best Easter Ever”.

The Haunted House

He ran as fast as he could trying to finish a 3 kilometre marathon, he doesn't like being first so he sat down on a rock and waited for the others to come. He heard distant running steps from the other players but he couldn’t track it down because the noise was coming from all directions.

Suddenly the noise stopped and he was in the middle of nowhere and couldn’t find any traces of footprint’s from the other people. John started to get scared.  Goosebumps ran up his back when  he saw  darkness falling and a mysterious house appearing  through the tree’s.  Rumour has it that in the late 70’s old people use to stay in the house  and use a cauldron to  make weird potions but that as they say was a long time ago.

John opened the door and stepped inside,  the door shut closed behind him.  Although John tried desperately to open the door, he had not luck,it appeared to be barred from the other side. Shivers ran up his spine.  The feeling that something was about to happen hung in the air.   He was stuck in a scary looking house that might be filled with vampires or even worse a zombie riot or the people who lived here as ghosts. John wanted his mum’s special chocolate milkshake because she makes it everytime he does something that includes a good opportunity. Then a man came downstairs and asked John why are you here then John didn’t say anything but the man asked again in a more angry voice then John answered “I was just here for shelter”. Then the man said “It’s time for you to go John” then John asked the man how he knew his name but he disappeared in the darkness. Then John opened the door and ran outside once he stopped running he looked back and noticed that the house was gone and the crows finally stopped being annoying again, then he found himself back at home and his mum making his special chocolate milkshake.

The End
